Think Big Ireland is a project developed for O2 and Headstrong which provides a platform to promote, support and facilitate positive mental wellbeing in young people. An extensive online social network has been developed where young people are encouraged to share and engage. It also enables young people to deliver projects in their communities that will make a difference to young people's mental health.
Project Summary
Think Big provides young people with an opportunity to submit their ideas as potential projects. Every idea needs to show how it will have a positive impact on mental well-being for young people in the community. If an idea is successful, a grant of up to €300 is awarded to the applicant. They also receive a mobile phone and €50 credit in order to help them turn their idea into a successful project. Best of all, practical help is on hand from their Mentor (who is an O2 employee).
Young People can also submit bigger ideas or be invited to submit a bigger idea based on the impact of their initial idea and their experience.
Ideas can be submitted to the Funding Committee Idea Submission Committee (represented by O2, Headstrong, young people and external representatives) who meet every month to discuss and review what 'Big Ideas' receive funding and become a Think Big project.
The Think Big website allows young people to:
• View the website front end to learn about Think Big and get inspired
• Join the Think Big community
• Submit a Big Idea
• Manage a Project
The project was commissioned to Brand Plate Media, Brando, the Digital Media Agency and Monsoon Consulting. We at Monsoon acted as the technical delivery partners on the project and were responsible for the UI coding, web application development and implementation. We used Drupal as the technology platform to build this social network integrated with Facebook Login API to allow for ease of registration and access for new and existing members of the network.
